Leveled readers or "little books" are used in guided reading. Books are given a level which corresponds to developmental reading stage. Students should be able to read a book at their level before moving up to the next level. Running records and benchmark books are used to assess a student's reading level. There are many different leveling systems and individual books are not always leveled accurately. Below is a table which correlates the different leveling systems. Use this as a guide only. For accurate leveling, or for trade books without a level, learn how to level books yourself.
